One of the signature attractions of the Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Nepal–Japan Diplomatic Relations (1956–2026) is the Nepal–Japan Semblance Exhibition—a unique exhibition that highlights the remarkable cultural, traditional, and lifestyle similarities shared by Nepal and Japan.
Although separated by geography, Nepal and Japan have long shared many common values, customs, beliefs, artistic expressions, and ways of life. The Semblance Exhibition has been designed to showcase these fascinating parallels, encouraging visitors to discover how two distinct nations can be connected through shared heritage and human values.
About the Exhibition
To commemorate the 70th Anniversary of Nepal–Japan Diplomatic Relations, the exhibition will feature 70 carefully selected exhibits, symbolizing seventy years of friendship between the two countries.
The exhibition is planned to include:
- 60 photo panels illustrating similarities in culture, traditions, architecture, festivals, craftsmanship, religious practices, lifestyle, nature, and everyday life.
- 10 food displays presenting comparable traditional foods and culinary heritage from Nepal and Japan.
Together, these exhibits offer visitors a unique perspective on the many ways in which the two countries resemble each other despite their geographical distance.
Why "Semblance"?
The word "semblance" means similarity, resemblance, or shared characteristics. This exhibition celebrates the many common elements that have fostered mutual understanding and friendship between Nepal and Japan over the past seven decades.
Rather than focusing solely on differences, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the values and traditions that unite our two nations.
A Continuing Tradition
The Nepal AOTS Alumni Society has previously organized similar exhibitions as part of initiatives celebrating Nepal–Japan friendship, including programs held during the 60th Anniversary of Nepal–Japan Diplomatic Relations and at the Bon Odori Festival organized by the Japanese Association in Nepal. Building on these successful experiences, the 70th Anniversary Semblance Exhibition expands the concept with a specially curated collection of seventy exhibits that reflect the enduring cultural connections between Nepal and Japan.
